“Barbarian isn't picky when it comes to choosing targets - he's happy to strike the closest enemy, whatever that may be.”

The Barbarian is a troop unlocked at the start of the game in the Goblin Kingdom area. He is a melee single-target troop that attacks the closest target to him.

Strategy[]

  • Barbarians are a simplistic troop that, while not doing much on their own, can be devastating in combos.
  • Single Barbarians can be used to finish off weaker buildings, saving more powerful troops for tougher stages.
  • You may want to try using a spell like The Log or Fireball to blast down Walls so Barbarians can hit more dangerous inner targets.
  • Barbarians will always attack the closest target, so you may want to try using the Swap tactic to shuffle around Barbarians and get them to hit precisely what you want.
  • When using Heavy Sword, always consider which Barbarians are getting the damage boost, and try to make sure they attack a good target. You do not want to waste this boost on an enemy low on Hitpoints.
  • War Cry will only affect Barbarians that are directly connecting to the Barbarian that activates the rune, as well as any Barbarians that are connecting to those Barbarians. If the Barbarians are in a rectangular formation, then all of the Barbarians will receive the boost, regardless on which Barbarian activates the rune.

Trivia[]

  • The word "Barbarian" comes from "barbaros", which is the Greek word for uncivilized. Dating back to the ancient Greek times, the Greeks referred to non-Greek people as barbarians because the language they spoke sounded to Greeks like gibberish represented by the sounds "bar..bar..;".
  • The Barbarian is 1 of 7 troops which first existed in Clash of Clans, the others being Archer, Wizard, Goblin, Giant, P.E.K.K.A., and Minion.
  • The Barbarian is 1 of 3 troops to have their own Hero versions, the others being Archer and Goblin. In his case, it is the Barbarian King.
  • The Barbarian bears more than a passing resemblance to Hulk Hogan and Abraham Ford from The Walking Dead TV series.
  • The Barbarian seems to have a dagger with a sheath on his belt. It's unknown why he has that.
  • The Barbarian is featured in non-Clash games. More specifically:
  • It is said that Barbarians cannot function without their swords. This is referenced a few times:
    • The Duelist Decoration in Clash Royale saying "Swords. Barbarians don't enter the Arena without them!"
    • The Raged Barbarian's description in Clash of Clans which says "Why is he so angry, speedy, and vicious? Nobody's brave enough to ask. Maybe it's because he can't find his sword?"
    • In the Clash-A-Rama episode "Ballad of the Barbarian", a Barbarian was depressed because he lost his sword.
  • There is a Loading Screen Hint in Clash Royale that says: "Don't feed Barbarian after midnight.". This is a reference to Gremlins.
